QotD: It's hot in here...

  • Jul 23, 2006

What's the most extreme weather you've been in? A memorable storm? Heat wave? Or something else?

Even though I've been in some nasty thunderstorms that had me fearing for my life, it's been so hot in Seattle and Portland the last few days that I'm about to spontaneously combust or melt or something.

What's your favorite drink or cocktail? What's in it?
Question submitted by charm.vox.com

This changes on a monthly basis, but right now it's Makers Mark neat with a pint of beer (especially Red Menace.)  It contains, well, bourbon and beer and nothing else.  I'm looking to make a change, mostly because this combination seems a little self-destructive, at least as far as my stomach is concerned.

A friend of mine once told me that bourbon and a shot was "very wild west", which added a manly mistique to the whole thing.

Webvisions 2006

I'm in Portland today and tomorrow at Webvisions, which is turning out to be a great conference.  My only complaint so far is the absence of bottles of water.  Seriously, it's impossible to beg, borrow, or steal water around this place.

Wait, I just spotted attendees with Starbucks beverages...cherche la frapacchino.

A concept album from a New Pornographer?  That's all I needed to hear.  It's good, too.

Interesting, fun indie-pop for the summer.  Is it just me or is '80s-era new wave making a big comeback?

Having never been a huge fan of Roxy Music, I'm only a recent Eno convert, but holy crap is this a good album.
